Old Crime revealed by High Tech

It is becoming almost common to read how a new technology has either solved an old crime, proven innocent a man convicted of a crime, or revealed a crime where one hadn't been suspected before. DNA analysis has done a good deal of all three. Now, The Discovery Channel reveals a fraud more than two millennia old. Link.

A new digital x-ray machine is helping museums study some of their holdings. One of its findings was that a 'mummified cat' actually contained just twigs and cotton.
The person who bought it probably used it as an offering to the goddess Bestat, who possessed the head of a cat," said William Pestle, anthropology collections manager at the Chicago natural history museum.

He explained that mummy standards began to "fall off" around the 25th and 26th dynasties, which existed from 8-7 B.C.
