More on the Orange Rebellion in Ukraine

The New York Times has a fascinating article about the actions of the S.B.U., Ukrain's successor to the K.G.B., during the Orange Rebellion. Link to article.

They acted to protect the protesting citizens, rather than the government. This is a development we have seen before. Dictatorships can only continue in power while the military and/or security forces are willing to kill large numbers of citizens when they rebel. When they are not willing, the government falls. We saw this in The Phillapines, as well as the Soviet Union.
